Frequently Asked Questions

What is talking therapy?

Talking therapy is a collaborative and supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a trained professional. Through conversation, we work together to make sense of challenges, find new perspectives, and discover practical ways of coping.

What is a clinical psychologist?

  • Clinical psychologists are trained to understand the many factors that shape people’s lives and wellbeing. We consider influences across the lifespan, such as early experiences, family history, health, relationships, culture, and neurodevelopment, which allows us to take a holistic view of difficulties. At the core of our work is the therapeutic relationship, we meet with clients regularly, often weekly, and the process is collaborative, with space to learn from each other.

  • Clinical psychologists draw on a range of evidence-based therapies and tailor them to each individual’s needs, always working with you in the context of your life. Clinical psychologists have ongoing professional supervision, ensuring we continue to grow and provide the most appropriate, high-quality care.

I'm nervous!

  • It’s completely natural to feel nervous about starting talking therapy. Many people worry about what it will be like to share personal thoughts and feelings with someone new, or if therapy will really help. Feeling unsure is part of the process and it’s okay to take your time.

  • Starting therapy doesn’t mean there’s something 'wrong” with you; it simply means you’re giving yourself space and support to work through what matters to you. My role is to offer a safe, understanding space where we can explore things at your pace, without pressure or judgment.

  • If you’re considering regular therapy sessions, I work flexibly offering both short-term, focused therapy and longer-term, exploratory work depending on your needs and preferences.

  • To help you decide if we might be a good fit, I offer a free 20-minute video call where we can talk about what you’re looking for and how I work with clients.

Do I need therapy?

  • There can be a lot of stigma and myths around therapy, like the idea that you should only seek help if things are really bad or that therapy offers a quick fix. In reality, therapy isn’t about instant solutions. It can take time, effort, and financial investment, but it’s also a space to learn new skills, improve wellbeing, and make meaningful changes in your life.

  • In a world where we often turn to quick answers, even AI, there is something unique about sitting down face-to-face with another person. Research shows that the therapeutic relationship itself, the connection between client and therapist, is one of the most important factors in healing and change.

  • Therapy isn’t for everyone, and it may not always be the right time. But for many people, it really can help!

Will therapy be confidential?

Yes. What you share in therapy is private and treated with respect. I won’t share details of our sessions with anyone else unless you give me permission, or if I am legally required to for example, if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or concerns about the safety of a child or vulnerable adult. I would discuss this with you beforehand.

What is the cost and how long is a session?

  • Assessments are £150 and 90 minutes (if shorter then the cost will be £120 for 60 minutes), booked and payable in advance via my booking page (sent to you via email).

  • An assessment may take several sessions, after which we’ll review your formulation and agree on a treatment plan with an approximate number of sessions. For some, assessment and formulation alone are enough; for others, the length of therapy varies depending on the complexity of difficulties.

Where are you sessions?

  • I see UK-wide clients online via Google meet which is a confidential and secure video conferencing platform. This is free and you do not need a google account to use it. Before each session I will issue you a link via email, once you click on it, you will be admitted to a private virtual waiting room where I will see you to start your session.

  • I also have limited availability to see clients face-to-face in the Lenzie area. Please let me know on the enquiry form if you would prefer this. In order to make your session as comfortable as possible, the room has a welcoming and comfortable sofa to sit on, soft furnishings, artwork plus plants and soft lighting to make the room feel as therapeutic as possible. There is fresh drinking water available, tissues and a toilet is available. The address will be sent out via email prior to the appointment.

  • My working hours are Thursdays, 9.30am - 5pm.

What do I need for an online session?

  • To help you feel comfortable in an online session, I suggest finding a space where you feel at ease and unlikely to be disturbed. You’re welcome to have water, a hot drink, or comfort items like a blanket nearby. There’s no need to stay still, feel free to move or stretch if that helps. If you have any sensory needs, please let me know so I can adapt accordingly. These are only suggestions; what matters most is that you feel supported to be yourself.

  • Please ensure that you have access to reliable WIFI for the duration of your session. Poor connection can be disruptive and impact the time spent focusing on you.
